Science Seminar

Modern vehicles are made of hundreds of electronic control units (ECUs) that communicate over controller area networks (CANs). The CAN bus is vulnerable to message injection attacks, which change the overall timing characteristics of messages on the bus. To detect these malicious messages, time-based intrusion detection systems (IDSs) have been proposed. We will discuss four time-based IDSs tested against the ROAD dataset, the first open CAN IDS dataset with real stealthy attacks with physically verified effects. This talk is based upon work done at Oak Ridge National Laboratory during the summer of 2019.
