Title:
How Mint Innovation’s world-first e-waste biotechnology transforms waste into value
Presenter:
Chris York, Vice President for Business Management, Mint Bio
Abstract:
In 2022, a record 62 million tonnes of e-waste was produced globally. This figure is on track to rise another 32% by 2030. Less than a quarter of this is recycled through proper channels, which typically involves carbon intensive smelting and the rest ends up in landfills or exported offshore.
In addition to the harmful environmental impacts of landfilling e-waste, critical and strategic metals contained within including copper and gold are also lost in the process. As demand for these metals increases and natural reserves dwindle, Mint Innovation’s science-backed technology provides a sustainable and scalable way to address the growing e-waste challenge and return these metals into circulation.
Founded in 2016 in New Zealand, Mint Innovation is a clean technology company that has developed a world-first process that selectively recovers critical metals from e-waste using a low impact biotechnology.
In this presentation, Mint Innovation’s VP of Business Development, Chris York will run through an overview of Mint’s process, what makes it unique and offer insights into broader economic benefits and future plans for Mint.
