Observational Astronomy using the Dark Sky Observatory

During the summer of 2024, the Department of Astrophysics took a giant leap in exploring the universe from LeTourneau University through development of the Dark Sky Observatory (DSO). Despite many challenges such as wasp nests, poorly maintained roads and quiche delivery deadlines, the Welch-funded summer research group brought the DSO to a fully operational status and demonstrated its capabilities through planetary imaging, spectroscopy and more through trips, techniques, tools, talks and targets. This adventure is just the beginning of what is possible in the observatory’s promising future.
