Title:
Quaternary Ammonium Compounds and New Analytical Testing Techniques in Wastewater
Abstract:
Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (QACs), often called quats, are cationic surfactants and biocides used frequently in food processing operations, in fabric softeners, and hair conditioners. Enhanced hygiene and precautionary measures that resulted from COVID, have led to these QACs becoming an issue for wastewater plants. These compounds tend to accumulate over time and their toxicity may interfere with wastewater treatment. At SPL-Kilgore, we developed a LC/MS method for quantitation of QACs to assist wastewater treatment facilities.
