In order to provide the best possible experience in the learning of mathematics, we use technology extensively in the classroom. Textbooks help us in this by including graphical and numerical methods of problem solving as well as algebraic or analytical methods.
Important Notes:
- These required calculators are for on-campus courses held on our Longview, TX, campus. For calculator policies in online and dual credit courses, please contact your instructor.
- If you already have a calculator which is similar to the required calculator for the course, be sure to ask your instructor. You may be able to use your calculator instead of the required one. (Examples may include having a TI-89 instead of a TI-Nspire w/CAS, having a TI-83 instead of a TI-84, or some other scientific calculator instead of a TI-30Xii.)
- Required Calculators by Class
- TI-30XII
- TI-84
- TI-Nspire with CAS

The TI-30XIIS is an inexpensive scientific calculator that provides an excellent platform for exploring math and science concepts, supporting operations with fractions as well as basic scientific, trigonometric and statistical functions.
Courses Used:
Introductory Algebra (MATH0103), Intermediate Algebra (MATH1123), College Algebra with Applications (MATH1203), Mathematical Reasoning and Exploration (MATH1223), Trigonometry (MATH1252/MATH1253), Discrete Mathematics (MATH2003)
The TI-84 is a multi-purpose programmable graphing calculator. Its features and large library of community-created software have helped make it one of the most common calculators in college mathematics.
Courses Used:
Elementary Statistics (MATH1423), Calculus with Business Applications (MATH1503), Technical Calculus (MATH1604), Discrete Mathematics (MATH2003)
The Nspire CX II CAS is the latest addition to TI's ever-popular line-up of calculators. The Nspire takes a new twist on normal calculators, providing the user with a graphical interface navigated by a pointer. The Computer Algebra System (CAS) allows you to manipulate algebraic expressions, solve equations symbolically, and see exact solutions.
The Computer Algebra System (CAS) is not available on all TI-Nspire models, so make sure to check that you're getting a CAS model.
Courses Used:
PreCalculus (MATH1304), Calculus I (MATH1903), Discrete Mathematics (MATH2003), Calculus II (MATH2013), Calculus III (MATH2023), Differential Equations (MATH2203), Linear Algebra (MATH2303)
