SCHEDULE:

This is a 9-month full-time, tenure-track position with a 12-credit teaching load per semester for the fall and spring semesters. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily on weekdays but may include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance is required at typical faculty and administrative meetings including graduation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

LeTourneau University is seeking an exceptional educator with a strong Christian faith to teach and serve as subject matter expert of a new and growing program in Communication Studies. The successful candidate should have the technical expertise, academic training and/or professional experience to provide leadership for this program. Reflecting LeTourneau University’s distinction as the Christian Polytechnic University, the candidate will lead students in hands-on learning in collaboration with the university and local community.  The ideal candidate will effectively develop interdisciplinary approaches to preparing future professionals for the rapidly changing field of communications.  This individual will also teach and provide leadership for a distinctive communication themed general education course developed as part of a recent general education revision process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach a full-time load of undergraduate communication and/or general education courses, involving preparation of course materials and assessments
  • Participate actively in the University learning community, including committees, seminars, and department meetings
  • Connect with students through advising and success programs
  • Actively engage in retention and recruitment efforts of students
  • Maintain a commitment to academic scholarship in field of expertise
QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications

  • Genuine support of LeTourneau University's Faith Statement and Community Covenant and enthusiasm for integrating faith and learning in the classroom
  • An earned doctorate or master's degree in communication, public affairs/relations, or mass media from a regionally accredited institution
  • Professional and/or technical expertise in Communication, Media, or Public Relations
  • A strong desire and enthusiasm for networking and recruiting to grow the Communication Studies program
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, colleagues, and administrators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Documented success in college teaching
  • Experience and ability to teach digital multimedia content creation, graphic design, and/or social media marketing
  • Experience with digital journalism and broadcast media is a plus
