SCHEDULE: Office hours include weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and flexibility that will include a significant number of evenings and weekends
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

DUTIES: The position of Assistant Athletic Trainer is a full-time 12-month position and is responsible for management and development of all aspects of a collegiate training room including but not limited to:

Discipleship

  • Discipleship of student employees and student athletes under the care of the training room
  • Supervision and development of interns, and work study students in the training room

Excellence

  • Ensure the best athletic training operations in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)
  • Continually look for opportunities to improve air dome operations, presenting those in an organized and prioritized fashion

Administrative Effectiveness

  • Assistance in recruiting and retention of student athletes through the pursuit of excellence in athletic training
  • Responsibility for the care, prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student athletes’ athletic injuries, as well as record keeping, administrative duties and operation, maintenance, organization, and professional appearance of the athletic training room and equipment
  • Provide medical coverage for teams during practices and home events and selected away games
  • Coordinate medical communication between the student-athletes, coaches, on campus health services office, and physicians
  • Coordinate the collection, input, organization, and maintenance of the student-athlete’s medical records including determining medical clearance for participation
  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies
  • Contributing to, and caring for, the development and growth of the athletic department as a whole
  • Comply with the NATABOC Standards of Professional Practice, and NATA Code of Ethics
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Vice President of Athletics
QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIREMENTS: LeTourneau University seeks a person with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith committed to a Christian higher education that integrates Christian faith with learning.

  1. Bachelor’s degree, with athletic training certification
  2. NATABOC certification (recommended), Licensure in the State of Texas; CPR/AED certification
  3. A commitment to adhering to all policies, rules, and regulations of LeTourneau University, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the NCAA.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with other administrators, coaches, students and faculty members.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  6. Provide medical care under the input and supervision of the team physician
  7. An understanding of the mission and purpose of LeTourneau University.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in closely related field
  • Collegiate Athletic Training Experience
  • First-Aid/CPR certification
  • Understanding of NCAA regulations as they relate to sports medicine
