SCHEDULE:

This position is year-round except for scheduled vacation and paid holidays by the Faculty-Staff Handbook.  Responsibilities are conducted primarily on weekdays but may include evening and weekend flights and attendance required at evening and weekend events. 

This staff position involves flight training conforming to best practices, including dual instruction, stage checks, participation in department meetings, supervision of flight instructors, and other responsibilities as assigned. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Monitor quality of flight training through stage checks, flight instruction as assigned, and flight instructor supervision. This responsibility will include some Saturdays.
  • Serve as a mentor for flight instructors as assigned.
  • Maintain an understanding of current technologies applicable to the courses being taught.
  • Provide leadership in the development and improvement of the flight training courses.
  • Actively pursue relationships with students, faculty, and staff encouraging the accomplishment of the purpose and mission of LeTourneau University and the School of Aviation and Aeronautical Science.
  • Participate in normal college activities related to a staff position, such as convocations, chapels, and graduation activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

LeTourneau University operates a flight training program as part of its Aeronautical Science Bachelor’s Program under 14 CFR parts 141 and 61.

Minimum professional qualifications are:

  • B.S. degree in Aviation
  • Commercial pilot airplane – single-engine land with instrument rating
  • Certificated flight instructor airplane – single-engine land, instrument airplane
  • Meets14 CFR Part 141 experience requirements for an assistant chief instructor for Private, Commercial single-engine, and Instrument certificates and ratings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team relationship with flight instructor staff and within the community of LeTourneau University 

Desirable professional qualifications and experience:

  • Commercial pilot airplane – multi-engine land with instrument rating
  • Certificated flight instructor airplane -- multi-engine land
  • Significant tailwheel flight experience
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
  • Experience creating leaders
  • 121/135 experience
  • Aerobatic or upset training experience
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic certificate
