POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Position Description -  The Chemistry & Biology Laboratory Technician will have a responsibility to 1) maintain and improve laboratory facilities; 2) prepare equipment and materials for laboratory classes; 3) implement a safety program; and 4) support research activities. This position requires hands-on equipment maintenance and operation, facilities improvement, and experiment setup and execution,

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Management, care, and maintenance of LeTourneau’s Chemistry and Biology labs, including preparation of chemicals, solutions, and materials used in the chemistry laboratories and lecture demonstrations
  • Operation, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment and instrumentation and safety equipment
  • Order, procure, and prepare materials and supplies for teaching labs and research while maintaining an accurate record of spending
  • Performing equipment and chemical inventories
  • Train faculty, staff, and students in safe practices
  • Maintain PPE supplies
  • Maintain inventory of materials and dispose of waste according to proper policies
  • Comply with Federal, State, University, and departmental safety practices and regulations
  • Hire, train, and supervise student lab workers
  • Teaching responsibilities may be considered depending on degree
  • Provide support to Physics labs as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • LeTourneau University seeks a person with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith who is committed to Christian higher education that integrates Christian faith with learning
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry; Masters preferred
  • Strong customer service skills, including an ability to proactively identify, communicate and follow-up on, take ownership of, and resolve tasks, support issues, and major projects
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate excellent interaction with faculty, staff, students, and members of the community
  • Committed to learning and enforcing best practices for their own safety and the safety of others
  • Willing and able to work in environments requiring the use of safe practices and protective equipment
  • Willing and able to work in environments with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting, including lifting up to 50 lbs
  • A current valid driver’s license
