Rocketry Team Joins NASA Student Competition

The LUNAR Project, one of LeTourneau University's Engineering Senior Design teams, has been admitted into NASA's Student Launch Initiative: a competitive, nine-month project providing design opportunities that replicate actual missions, such as NASA's Artemis program.

The Student Launch involves designing, building, testing, and eventually launching vehicle and payload components in competition with student teams from top research schools such as The Ohio State University, Purdue University, Virginia Tech, West Point, the US Naval Academy, and Carnegie Mellon, among others.

The initiative is built around a NASA mission rather than textbook knowledge, and students will have the opportunity to engage with NASA Subject Matter Experts and personnel from across the aerospace industry. Teams participate in a series of design reviews with a NASA review panel that mirror the NASA engineering design lifecycle, providing an experience that prepares students for the STEM workforce.

The LUNAR project is one of many LeTourneau engineering senior design teams focused on collaborative, hands-on engineering experience to prepare students for careers in the industry. LUNAR has been operating and competing in the Argonia Cup competition for the last several years with favorable results and will now move into this next level of competition.
