How do I prepare for an engineering or engineering technology degree at LETU?
The program is designed to be completed in a four year period by students who have already completed the following list of courses. However, if you haven't taken all of these courses by the time you graduate high school, you may make up the necessary courses during your freshman year at LETU.
- Four years of high school English
- Two years of algebra
- One year of geometry
- One semester of trigonometry
- One year of science (chemistry or physics)
Both physics and chemistry are desired. Students who transfer from another college or university should understand that there are sequences of courses in the curriculum, up to six semesters in length, which build on one another.
What is the difference between an engineering degree and an engineering technology degree?
Our engineering technology degree is similar to our engineering degree, but emphasizes more application of theory and less development of theory than engineering. While all of our engineering and engineering technology degrees are focused on providing hands-on learning,engineering technology students will typically spend less time on mathematical derivations and more time focusing on applications and lab experiences. An engineering degree would be a better fit for students interested in graduate studies or research and development careers, but in many cases the degrees will open up similar job opportunities.
Nearly all of our engineering faculty hold doctoral degrees in their respective disciplines, and many have diverse backgrounds of research and industry experience. Nearly all of our engineering technology faculty bring years of industry experience to their teaching, such as company ownership and entrepreneurship.
LeTourneau University is the only member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities with a B.S. Engineering Technology program accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
We offer two different Master's-level engineering degrees: one that includes a research-based thesis, and one that only requires coursework. Both build on LeTourneau's decades-long legacy of integrating faith with technical theory and hands-on experience in a world-class program.
