DEGREE INFORMATION
MECHATRONICS CONCENTRATION
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (BSECE) offers students exposure to interdisciplinary areas of engineering combining mechanical, electrical, computer, and control systems. Mechatronics engineers work with systems that have mechanical and electrical components, sensors, and actuators.
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering with Mechatronics Concentration is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.
Curriculum Highlights
The Mechatronics curriculum includes both electrical and mechanical engineering classes. Programming is taught in Computer Science 1 and is emphasized in Introduction to Microcontrollers and in Robotics. Control systems theory is taught in Mechatronics and in Robotics. The curriculum emphasizes both theory and practice. On the practical side, students use various software tools that are important in industry, such as SolidWorks in Introduction to Engineering Practice 1, Simulink in Mechatronics and in Robotics, and MATLAB in classes such as Digital Signal Processing. LabVIEW is our main measurement and control software, such as in the Circuits and Measurements Lab.

Projects
Many engineering classes emphasize projects, such as Digital Electronics, Electronics and Lab, and Mechatronics. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of their degree plan, Mechatronics students can participate in most engineering senior design projects. Information about recent senior design projects is available.

Lab Experience
Engineering hands-on experience begins in the freshman year, when all engineering students carry out a major project in Introduction to Engineering Practice and learn basic machining and welding skills in Manufacturing Processes Lab. Subsequently, Mechatronics students use the Electronics Lab and the Advanced Electronics Lab for the study of electric and electronic circuits. Both electronics labs are equipped with standard test equipment (multimeters, waveform generators, oscilloscopes, DC power supplies) and data acquisition boards for interface with the LabVIEW software. The Microprocessors and Micorcontrollers Lab supports the Introduction to Microcontrollers class, in which students learn the details of microcontroller programming using the C language and a real-time operating system. Students learn to program industrial robots in the Robotics Lab. The lab is equipped with one delta robot and two articulated robots with six-degrees of freedom, from ST Robotics, and two UR3 cobots from Universal Robots.
