Congratulations on your decision to study abroad! Whether it is for a few short weeks or an entire year, this will be one of the most enriching experiences of your life. The Office of Global Initiatives is here to help you on your way.
You must get approval through the Office of Global Initiatives before applying to any of the LETU partner programs or third-party programs.
Faculty-Led Academic Travel trips and Global Service Learning projects have different trip-specific applications and deadlines. Contact the Office of Global Initiatives for more information.
LETU STUDY ABROAD APPLICATION PROCESS
Step 1: Do your research to find your top two program picks!
Step 2: Complete the Study Abroad Cost Calculator for your top program(s).
Step 3: Complete the Study Abroad Application Form.
October 5 – Spring semester study application deadline
March 5 – Summer/Fall semester study application deadline
Step 4: Apply for a first-time passport or renew your passport if needed.
Step 5: After you’re approved for study abroad by LETU, complete a separate exchange/study abroad application for the partner school or study abroad program. (Check your study abroad program’s application deadline!)
After you are admitted to the study abroad program, make sure to apply for the appropriate visa for your travel if required.
Step 6: Provide the following documentation to OGI:
- REQUIRED – Completed Study Abroad Course Request Form
- REQUIRED – Completed Emergency Information Release Form & Travel Documents
- Submit the form and upload below documents at least 2 weeks prior to travel:
- A color scan of your passport picture page (valid for 6 months beyond travel)
- A scan of the front and back of your medical/health insurance card and your international health insurance information
- A copy of your complete travel itinerary (flights, trains, buses, etc.)
- OPTIONAL – Completed Sidney & Anna Lee Allen Travel Grant Application Form
November 5 – Spring semester study grant application deadline
April 5 – Summer/Fall semester study grant application deadline
Step 7: Attend the mandatory Study Abroad Pre-departure Orientation three or four weeks before semester end prior to travel.
At the Study Abroad Pre-departure Orientation, participants will review important international travel, safety, and cultural norms specific to the destination.
Participants who are US citizens will also be encouraged to enroll in the US Department of State’s STEP travel notification program.
Make sure to discuss any financial concerns or payment arrangements with the Financial Aid Office or Student Accounts prior to your departure.
