Packing and Travel Tips for International Students



What to Pack in Your Carry-On

  • Airplane tickets
  • Important documents: Passport and valid visa, signed I-20, LETU admission/scholarship letters, State Department/CBP letter, Immunization Form (NOTE: Also have photos of these docs on your phone.)
  • Credit/debit card, and some cash for small purchases or opening a US bank account
  • Prescription medicine with prescription information from physician, COVID personal protection (face masks, gloves, etc.), other over-the-counter medicine you use regularly but doesn’t require a prescription (Make sure all medicine is in original packaging with label.)
  • Laptop (Visit www.letu.edu/IT for information about network connections and configurations.)
  • At least one change of clothing and personal items (toiletries) in case checked bags are delayed
  • Contact information for Office of Global Initiatives in case of changes in travel plans

 

Packing for Your Stay at LETU

  • Warm and cold weather clothes (Temperatures in Texas range from 2°C to 35°C.)
  • Personal toiletries (especially if you prefer specific brands)
  • Extra pair of glasses or prescription information
  • Travel adapter/Voltage converter
  • Traditional clothing (for several events where traditional dress is encouraged)
  • Snacks, spices, recipes from home (check https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring to see what is permitted)
  • A few personal items to decorate your room and remind you of home (family photos, flag, etc.)
    NOTE: You will have the opportunity to go shopping within the first 48 hours of your arrival at LETU. Basic bedding is provided for your first few nights.

 

What NOT to Bring

  • Tobacco, alcohol, hookah, e-cigarettes, or vaping paraphernalia
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Candles, fireworks, or anything with an exposed heating element
